NSPS Health Care Personnel Info Posted

The National Security Personnel System Transition Office has posted further details for health care workers who must remain under NSPS until DoD can develop a new compensation system for them.

Health care employees in 30 occupation categories remain in NSPS under an exception granted by the NSPS Transition Office. The list of excepted occupations includes chiropractors, physician assistants, dietitian/nutritionists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, rehabilitation therapy assistants, nuclear medicine technicians and others. The exception gives DoD more time to develop a health care pay system before the final Dec. 31, 2011, deadline when NSPS terminates.

Physicians and dentists under NSPS are not affected by the exception. Rather than transition into the yet-to-be-completed pay system or the General Schedule, they will move instead to the Physician and Dentist Pay Plan.

DoD hopes to get about 90 percent of approximately 200,000 NSPS employees converted to GS by Sept. 30. As of the pay period beginning Aug 15, 2010, the Transition Office reported that 127,962 employees had transitioned out of the system—about double the number recorded by the office in June.
